West End transfer shouldn’t be out of the question for Paperboy (Irish News)

Tony’s first book ‘Paperboy’ has become a smash hit musical!

Paperboy is a heart-warming, coming-of-age, new musical drama that bubbles with humour and youthful energy; set against the gritty backdrop of 1970s Belfast. Based on the much-loved memoir by Irish writer and peace builder Tony Macaulay and adapted for musical stage, with music from platinum-selling Belfast artist Duke Special and writing by stand-up comedian Andrew Doyle. Featuring the sounds of The Bay City Rollers!

Tony Macaulay says:

‘When I was a paperboy I dreamed of being a time traveller, so I did. Last year’s premiere of Paperboy at the Lyric Theatre was an unforgettable experience for me. It was like jumping into the TARDIS with Doctor Who and travelling back in time to Belfast in 1975. From the first rehearsal to the final show I couldn’t quite believe that I was seeing the story of my childhood on the stage.

Duke Special and Andrew Doyle have created a beautiful and authentic adaptation of Paperboy and it’s thrilling to see so many talented young people bringing it to life. Paperboy tells the story of how ordinary people not only survived, but tried to live our lives to the full during an extraordinary time in our history. With a little help from the Bay City Rollers!

Today my dream is that this story of innocence and longing for peace will be performed in many other places to show that hope and happiness are possible even during the darkest of days.’
